Comic Timing – Episode 20A

It has been a while since we have had to do a two parter, so now is as good a time as any! Comic Timing Episode 20 focuses upon the world of 52, and the characters surrounding the title. For this episode, I am joined by David D. from the Comic Geek Speak Forums, and return guest John Mayo of The Mayo Report and his brand new column on Comic Book Resources! There are spoilers for 52 in this episode, so if you are waiting for the trades to come out, this one may not be for you. We discuss such topics as who may be behind the Supernova mask, Lex Luthor and his Infinity Inc team, the life and deceptions of Booster Gold, and so on. It makes for great discussion, and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it.

Comic Timing – Episode 21: Evan Dorkin Interview

Hey folks. Comic Timing is back to its regularly scheduled episodes, and this week, we are joined by one of the funniest comic creators around. He has worked on such projects as Milk and Cheese, Dork, and Bill and Teds Excellent Comic Book, and has also written for animated series such as Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Superman The Animated Series, and he crated the Adult Swim pilot, Welcome To Eltingville. This man is of course, Evan Dorkin. Evan stops by for a whopping two and a half hours to discuss his career, his thoughts on modern day comics, what companies can do to get kids back into comics, and a whole lot more.

I want to thank Evan for joining us, and I would also like to remind everybody that Episode 20 will be released next week, as Matt and I are joined by Steve Bryant of Athena Voltaire, and Damian Smith will present his second Rogues Gallery, this time on Dr. Doom!

Comic Timing – Episode 19.5

Hey folks. Well, it was bound to happen eventually. For the first time since the lost Episode 5, an episode of Comic Timing has been scrapped. Ian Levenstein goes solo for this .5 episode as all is explained, as well as when you should expect to hear our interview with Steve Bryant eventually. I also touch on art discontinuity, and how it has appeared most recently in a title it should not appear in: Civil War Frontline.

Tonight, Comic Timing goes to the movies! Well, comic book movies at least. We discuss every comic movie we can think of, meaning we go from the good, to the bad, to the so incredibly awful it makes you want to burn your eyes to stop the images from getting to your brain. Yep, we even mention Catwoman. Along the way, the three of us give our thoughts on how Marvel and DC can keep their franchises alive and kicking, what makes Independent Comic movies special, and we read the thoughts of some of our forum members too.

Next week, Comic Timing celebrates episode 20 as we welcome the artist of Athena Voltaire, Steve Bryant to the show to discuss independent comics, his career as an artist, and a whole lot more. We discuss my trip down to Baltimore for the Baltimore Comic Con this past weekend, take a trip from A to Z through the Marvel U, and we go over The Harvey Awards and who they went to this year. Then finally we get into the big announcements of the week that came out of the Marvel Camp this past Monday, including the new writer and artist on Runaways, World War Hulk, and a whole lot more.

Comic Timing – Episode 17

Episode 17 of Conic Timing has arrived. This week, Matt S., Chris Chavez, known to some as Equinox, and myself discuss restarts vs. continuity. Should the comic companies stick with their rich histories, or would it be alright for them to reset things every now and then for the sake of new readers, and to refresh the character? It is a fun conversation, and Chris brings a lot to the table here, so I hope everybody enjoys it.

I also hope to see anyone going to Baltimore Comic Con this weekend, as I shall be roaming around on Saturday and Sunday. Should be plenty of fun to be had by all. Comic Timing – Episode 16

Episode 16 of Comic Timing is now up and running. This week, Matt S., Lord Shaper himself Damian Smith, and myself get together to discuss violence in comics. Are comic books still for kids, or is that a thing of the past? And if so, how are we going to get the next generation involved in the world of comic books? We go from Vertigo to Wildstorm to the MAX line to books that probably deserved this distinction, but instead ended up regular titles. If parents get involved in their children and their reading, will it stop them from reading things they should not? All this and a lot more are discussed in this episode, and Damian also premieres his brand new monthly segment, Rogues Gallery. This month he takes on Deathstroke, one of DC Comics most popular villians.
