Comic Timing – Episode 196: Captain Marvel Movie Review

Hear Raph, Brent, Kris and Ian get a bit punchy, as it’s time to review Marvel Studio’s latest cinema offering: Captain Marvel! Was Brie Larson able to make her stamp on the well established MCU, or did things fall flat? Depends on who in the cast you ask; hint, Brent’s the least convinced. There are plenty of nicks to pick and some genuine grievances over plot, execution, and call signs, as well as thoughts on bright spots and discussion on plot twists, but do listen in to hear the full story. Spoilers abound, as usual, so wait until after you’ve seen the film to check this episode out, unless you don’t mind knowing everything beforehand.

You can e-mail the show at comictiming@gmail.com and be sure to Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ComicTiming. You can follow Ian on Twitter @i_am_scifi, on Instagram at i_am_scifi or on Tumblr at heehaw-ds9.tumblr.com, and he is now a regular voice in the rotation on the Comic Geek Speak podcast; Brent is on Twitter @kossinab, and he posts regularly to YouTube on his channel, BK’s Bullets; Raph can be found on Twitter @RaphDoesStuff and at the Nerd Ranting blog, and he posts articles and comic reviews regularly for ComicsVerse. Or you can add to his GoFundMe campaign, while Raph awaits disability. Kris is on Twitter @lampbane and @KrisNaudus for the professional Tweets, and Instagram at lampbane, and she writes and contributes content regularly over at Engadget.

And please make sure to head over to Kickstarter and check out Masked Prejudice – A Superhero Anthology for Social Justice, and anthology Raph contributed a story to! The campaign still has about a month to go, so do contribute to making this a reality if you can. In other Kickstarter news, Kwanza Osajyefo and Jamal Igle have lauched the follow-up six issue miniseries to the critically acclaimed BLACK, entitled WHITE. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for listening, and we’ll catch you all next time!

Comic Timing Episode 165 – Part 2: Spider-Man Movie News, 2014 Wrap-Up Conclusion and More

SpiderManMoney_

Double the pleasure, double the fun! Not only do you get two episodes in a matter of days, but this episode itself is two episodes in one! First, Kris and Ian talk all about the Spider-Man movie franchise news, including his appearance in the Marvel Movie Universe, plus Kevin Feige’s involvement in future Sony Spider-Man movies. We also discuss the Miles Morales vs. Peter Parker movie debate, the Fantastic Four trailer and how it will more than likely not be for us, Michael Fassbender potentially playing Boba Fett, Ian finally watching Blade for the first time, Peggy Carter: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (both Kris’ praise, and Brent’s dislike from a pre-show conversation), The Walking Dead (SPOILERS) and more!

We then segue into the rest of our Best and Worst of 2014, questions 8-15, featuring Ian, Brent, Brandon, Chad and Yanni. Expect things to be just as grumpy, exhausted and insane as they were in Part 1. It’s a mess, but in a good way. Enjoy!

Comic Timing – Episode 162: DC and Marvel Movie Slate

CA_Supermovies_10-28-2014-2

Comic Book movies are coming! In full force! Put yourself in cryostasis now. Brandon, Brent and Ian go movie by movie in chronological order for DC and Marvel, with a little bit of Sony (if it happens) and FOX (please fail Fantastic Four) thrown in for good measure. We’re a little more sour on the DC stuff, but try to stay as even-handed as possible. What do we expect from movies like Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Justice League, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Infinity War? Listen in to find out! We also touch on Constantine, The Flash, Arrow, Gotham and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the last few minutes of the show. And thanks to Comics Alliance for the movie infographic.

Comic Timing – Episode 153

3399705-8648278332-winte

It’s time for some spoilerific thoughts and opinions on Captain America: the Winter Soldier and the last two episodes (and the season so far) of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Brent and Ian are joined by Rick Gordon of The Pop Cult Online Power Hour and Brandon Christopher as we dissect the movie as a whole, discuss what we liked ad the few things that could have been better, character building moments, what should happen in future movies and more. Plus, some Arrow, King of the Nerds, some stuff on Marvel’s Netflix series and more via conversation meandering. And stay tuned til the end, as both Brandon and I have comments on recent geek controversies including Janette Asselin’s comments on the Teen Titans #1 cover and the not so positive response by the dregs of society, the removal of women’s bathrooms at PAX East, and the overuse and subsequent loss of meaning of words like “fridging” and “problematic”. Thumbs up, soldier!

Comic Timing Extra Point – Episode 9

ScarletWitch

Extra Point time! Kris and I go over the Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe TV Special that aired this past Tuesday on ABC. We discuss how this special stood out from the typical promotional material included on DVDs and whatnot, what was revealed about Marvel Studios’ past and future, the strengths and shortcomings that come with having a team movies like The Avengers, meandering into old school X-Men crossovers, and more. A good solid thirty minutes of content! Oh, and here’s a direct link to the Guess Who? research video Kris brought up near the end of the show. Enjoy!
