Comic Timing Episode 248 – April 2025 Previews

Back at it again with that Previews magic! To start, Ian and Murd talk the final final final (for now) results of the Diamond Distributors purchase, as Alliance Entertainment has officially closed the deal after a last minute attempt at shenanigans by Diamond and their secondary bid. Then we delve into the multiple catalogs, including quick comments on Lunar’s catalog for TwoMorrow’s content, and a little bit of Penguin Random House’s very hard to read catalog. As for the usual suspects, we have Image Catalog Issue 6, DC Connect issue 59, Marvel Previews Vol 6 issue 43, and Diamond Previews issue 439, with books mainly set for June 2025 release. Highlights include Dynamite’s fever dream known only as Thundercats Powerpuff Girls, Brian K Vaughn and Nico Henrichson’s Spectators, Image’s foray into oversized with their Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, the conclusion of Michel Fiffe’s Copra, a whole lot of Godzilla in various forms as IDW, Marvel AND DC all get in on the game, Mark Waid’s New History of the DC Universe, the temporary return of Rainbow Rowell’s Runaways, Top Shelf’s It Rhymes with Takei, and so much more.

Comic Timing Episode 242 – February 2025 Previews

Just in the nick of time, February’s Previews episode is out! And this one…took some doing. For one thing, for the first time, we made the executive decision to skip Diamond’s Previews catalog (with the exception of two Dynamite entries at the end of the episode). And how did Murd and Ian manage to still put out a nearly three-hour episode without the Diamond catalog? THEY FOUND A WAY. That way includes the Lunar Distribution catalog, and Penguin Random House’s offering, along with the usual Image, DC and Marvel catalogs. Highlights include Dan Slott’s first Superman issue as the Summer of Superman begins, six Silent Interlude issues of G.I. Comic Timing Episode 240 – Diamond’s Looking…Rough

There’s a whole lot of serious stuff to discuss this episode, as Ian is joined by Kris and Jamal at start, then Raph and Donovan shortly thereafter. Topics include updates on Diamond’s bankruptcy and some decisions that have been made since, including Massive Publishing and Mad Cave joining up with Lunar Valiant halting their relaunch entirely until a new distribution solution emerges, Boom heading to Penguin Random House, and Two Morrows looking for alternatives. We also discuss what could have potentially been done to avoid this fate, if there’s a way out for Diamond, and what might come next for distribution.

Then, we go into the allegations against Neil Gaiman, DC’s response, Sandman ending after Season Two, and how we as fans can discuss things like this seriously while divorcing ourselves from the author’s works. Much less seriously, we talk Batman: Caped Crusader, our reactions to James Gunn’s Superman trailer and Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, Creature Commandos, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, some recent reads and more.

Jamal brings his wealth of knowledge on the comics industry to the table here, as the crew discuss the current state of things, including changes in distribution, the rise of digital, Lunar Distributors and UCS Distributors and how much of a challenge they actually are for Diamond, what readership numbers and sales revenue really looks like in today’s world, and a whole lot more. And oh, we also discuss pasta extraordinaire, and soon to be Batman Robert Pattinson, and his choice to not work out while quarantined. That too.
