Comic Timing Episode 282 – Diversity, Layoffs and Cocaine Hippos, Oh My!

We’re back with a full Blue Team episode to start our Anniversary month off strong! Ian, Kris, Donovan, Brandon, Brent, Raph and Jamal start things off first with some words on the one and only Gerry Conway, creator of characters such as The Punisher, Jason Todd, Carol Danvers (as Ms. Marvel), Ben Reilly, Firestorm and so many others, who passed away at the age of 73. We then discuss Sam Kieth’s passing a bit and the gothic inspiration of Gotham, pivot to Marvel’s recent layoffs and what that may mean for the company, and for AI moving forward, the lack of black led ongoing series from DC (yes, there’s a tracker recording how long it’s been since that happened), bringing back up that old Dwayne McDuffie skateboard memo, recent reads including The Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre (yes, for real), Kevin Smith’s Bizarro: Year None, a Comiket documentary, Kris’ continued thoughts on Medalist, and so much more!

Comic Timing Episode 255 – Superman Movie Review

Would it even be a movie review of a Superman property on Comic Timing if the episode itself wasn’t longer than the movie? I say thee nay! Ian, Brent, Kris, Donovan, Brandon and Raph are joined for this one by host of the Star Joes podcast and creator of the Stealth Hammer comic, Ryan Drost! He shares his firsthand knowledge from being an extra on the set of the movie when it filmed in Cleveland, how the movie’s filming was welcomed by the city at large, his experiences being up close with David Corenswet and James Gunn, and the awesome Easter Eggs that are the street names of Metropolis’ city grid. We also go through the movie as a whole, what worked, what didn’t, some passionate back and forth on whether what didn’t work actually didn’t work, the glory that is Guy Gardner’s mop top, Krypto is a bad dog, Lois is a reporter, Jimmy Olsen gets all the ladies, Lex Luthor is Musky, Mr. Terrific lives up to his name, and so much more. That also includes where this new universe may go next, and also where it’s been before. Punk rock, baby!

And here’s the YouTube video version:
